Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club is a huge supporter of Girls Cricket and offers an excellent program for girls of all abilities. Grounded on the values of enjoyment and getting everyone involved, you can be sure you’ve made the right choice for your daughter. Our girls program is rapidly growing and set to reach record numbers this season! There are multiple different levels of competition available.

Girls Heat League

Girls Heat League is a local girls competition that provides three stages of progression in order to cater for all levels of skill and experience. The girls competition is more skill based rather than age based, priority is for players play a level that best suits their skill, however, the grading is managed to have girls play with and against their own age group as much as possible. 

  • Foundation (6-10 years): 16m pitch, softer ball, equal opportunities to bat irrespective of how many times you get out, hitting of tees for wides), T20.

  • Intermediate (8-12years): 18m pitch, 142g ball, no more tees, conventional rules around getting out, 25 over per side.

  • Heat (12 years +): Full pitch, more advanced level, some games on turf, 30 overs per side.

*Ages are merely a guide. 

Games are played on Sundays for seven weeks in Term 4 & seven weeks in Term 1. Start times can be either morning or afternoon. All matches are played local to Wynnum. The club also holds training every week for the girls. Equipment for training and games is mostly provided besides a protector and uniform. 

BWC Competitions

Brisbane Women’s Cricket is a Queensland Cricket run association that provides two stages of competition designed to provide that progression from junior cricket to senior cricket, the Stage 3 U14s competition and the open age BWC competition, there is also an open age T20 competition that runs. The girls competition is more skill based rather than age based, therefore U15-U17 may play in the U14s Stage 3 competition should their skill level suit.

·        U14 Stage 3: 20m pitch, 142g ball, 20-30 over games, matches played Friday nights OR Saturday afternoons, matches usually played on turf.

  • BWC Open Age: 20m pitch, 142g ball, 35 over matches played on Sunday, usually on turf.

U9 – U12 Junior Cricket Competition

Saturday morning inter-club cricket for U9 to U12 teams is organised by the Eastern Districts Junior Cricket Association EDJCA and involves teams from the following junior cricket clubs: Wynnum Manly, Bulimba, Carina, Holland Park, Mansfield and Villanova College (Pre-Christmas only). The U9 and U10 teams play “one day” games only while the U11 and U12 teams play a mixture of both “one day” and “two day” games. All play to modified rules with LBW only applying to the U12 competition. Teams compete for the enjoyment of cricket rather than premierships.

Junior Divisional Competition U13 – U18

The Bayside East and Redlands Junior Cricket Association, better known as BEARS, organises the Saturday morning inter-club cricket for our U13 and older players (who are still at school) and involves teams from the following junior cricket clubs: Wynnum, Carina, Holland Park, Mansfield, Villanova College, Wellington Point, Redlands Sharks, Cleveland, Thornlands and Muddies. Players are graded into teams based on ability, with due consideration given to their age and player preference. These graded teams play in “Divisions” rather than age groups, with normally six teams per division with Division 1 being the highest grade and Division 16 (pre-Christmas) and Division 6 (post Christmas) being the lowest grade.

Teams play a mixture of both “one day” and “two day” games and there are pre and post Christmas divisional premierships, as club championships, to be won.

Combining Club and School Cricket

With structured fixtures many of the girls can successfully combine playing both Club cricket for Wynnum and cricket for their School. Private schools tend to play Club cricket for Wynnum in Term 4 and cricket for their School in Term 1. Wynnum Manly Junior Cricket has half season registration fees to facilitate these arrangements. Depending on the location of your child’s school, there is also the opportunity to play representative cricket for Metropolitan East School Sports, Metropolitan West School Sports or Metropolitan North School Sports in their respective age groups.

The Pathway to Senior and Grade Cricket with Wynnum Manly D.C.C

Wynnum Manly Junior Cricket is part of the Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club, which is one of the twelve Clubs with teams in the Queensland Premier Grade Cricket Competition. The Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club presently has Womens’ First and Second Grade teams playing in Queensland Premier Grade Cricket Competition, a team in the Brisbane Open Womens Competition as well as playing in the Taverners QLD Under 16 competition and Stage 3 Under 14’s for girls.

As Wynnum junior cricketers develop their cricketing skills, notch up some significant performances and grow in size and maturity, they are provided with opportunities to play senior cricket whilst they are still juniors and to train with the women. This greatly eases their way into senior cricket and it often helps to ensure that they continue to play cricket after leaving school.
